Refuge Spaces

We currently have 11 refuge spaces for women and children throughout the Motherwell & District area. We provide two types of accommodation: Women are allocated a support worker who will support them with all of their practical and emotional needs throughout their journey in refuge.

Purpose Built Refuge

We have a purpose – built refuge which is inclusive of 6 self-contained flats. One of these properties is adapted for disabilities and is wheelchair accessible. These properties are both one- and two-bedroom properties. This building has an on-site office where we can provide direct and ongoing support to women and children. Within this building we have a children’s playroom and a teenage room.

Refuge Properties

We have 5 refuge properties within the Motherwell District Community. There are no on-site offices at these properties.

High Standards

All refuge accommodation is equipped to a high standard; women and children need only clothes and personal belongings if they have to leave in a hurry and stay with us.

'I Understand

what a healthy relationship is now, and I am learning with my support worker, you must be kind, and you put your love with respect. It is not healthy if you hit and shout at people. It is right to treat your family and friends nicely.'

Domestic Abuse

Domestic abuse is a gendered crime which is deeply rooted in the societal inequality between men and women. It is a form of gender-based violence, violence “directed against a woman because she is a woman. We support women to understand this inequality and educate them around Gender Based Violence. We support women who have experienced all forms of abuse including sexual abuse and provide support to recover from the trauma of their abuse.
