The core purpose of Motherwell and District Women’s Aid [MDWA] is to help prevent violence against women and girls, and to reduce the negative impacts of domestic abuse through the provision of specialist support to at risk women and children.
MDWA serves 1.2 million people amounting to 23% of the total population of Scotland; providing free and confidential support to women and children who are experiencing Domestic Abuse and or Gender Based Violence [GBV].
Every year we work with over 900 women and 250 children providing direct emotional support which may also include safe accommodation, advocacy, court support, outreach services, specialist Children’s Services and follow on, we also run group programmes including Own my Life. MDWA has been providing trauma informed specialist Domestic Abuse support to survivors across Motherwell District for over 20 years.
MDWA has a long-standing commitment to addressing the many different challenges faced by women and children impacted and affected by Domestic Abuse including GBV, isolation, poverty, mental health, homelessness, unemployment and psychological trauma. Our comprehensive support services are designed to break the cycles of Domestic Abuse and GBV by providing immediate assistance and fostering long-term resilience.
MDWA operates in across the Motherwell District. Our support services are available from Monday to Thursday 8.30am to 4.30pm and Friday 8.30am to 1pm. For out of hours support please click here.

The key roles in the organisation comprise of a Senior Management Team of a Chief Operations Officer, Senior Business Manager and a Services Manager.
The COO leads the responsibility for the Service and the Staff Team and the SBM leads the responsibility for the income generation, business development, communications, Governance and works with the Board and the Accountants on the Budgeting and finance for the Organisation.
MDWA is a small, highly trained team who deeply care about the needs of women and children affected by Domestic Abuse across Motherwell District.
